Verified ReviewerTaxAct Guarantee is not worth much
TaxAct Guarantee is not worth much. The program made two errors on our 2022 returns, one on federal form and one on state, both related to 529 college savings distribution.
As a result, we under-paid state tax and were flagged by an audit, and we now owe money to state. We submitted claim to TaxAct, and their response is not constructive, they are basically claiming this is not their fault.
But it is, and proving it is turning into a deep argument, bordering an ordeal. Do not expect the return process to be hassle-free, this is nothing like Wal-Mart or other major retail chains
- Asks many questions
- Does not apply 529 deduction limit properly
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Triple check output, do not count on their Guarantee

Verified ReviewerCannot log in to account
The support for attempting to log into my account has failed. After having filed tax returns via Tax Act the last three years it is unacceptable with regard to your incompetence.
What is going on with Tax Act. Should I go to Turbo Tax knowing I cannot rely on your system?
- Lousy support
Preferred solution: Explanation as to why I cannot log in to existing account
Didn't get any help
I can't give a review because I wasn't able to speak to someone. Kept getting the run around. I need to speak to a live person not a robot
Poor Customer Support
There is no one to answer questions or review concerns with your tax return. Not helpful - will switch to another tax preparer.

Verified ReviewerI am a long time user of TaxAct but . . . they have gone very impersonal and seem to be only interested in making money.
I used TaxAct to do my federal return and they said I needed to pay for the deluxe package as my return, even though I only used the standard deduction, had to have an additional form as my interest income was more than $1500.00. When I started my return I was quoted (and I did a print screen to save it) a price of $39.99 for the additional state retrun.
However since they told me I had to pay $49.99 for the federal return due to the xtra page I was now required to file (the $1500 interest).
Then they told me that the state return would now cost me $59.99, a $20 increase even though it was the same state return as before. I am very unhappy with this years TaxAct company!!!Be cautiousLook
- Seems to be accurate tax preparation software
- Pricing practices
Preferred solution: Price reduction
User's recommendation: Look before you commit!!
They charged me for rejected tax and my taxes was wrong.
I did my taxes on tax tax I have been doing it for a few years yet. There was one year that they had done that to me before this they said that I owe $609 for federal and 190 or something like that in state so I filed for an extension because there is no way I can pay at $609 at one time and then I filed it .then I get it saying that it was rejected because the Social Security or something like that was wrong so I went through it.
Yes there was something wrong but I know my husbands phone or Social Security so there was something really weird about that and then I submitted it and that and then they said something that the EIN was not correct or was wrong so it rejected again and that so I went back in there and went through the whole thing again and I know I put the numbers in theres no way I couldve have done that many mistakes on three of my W-2s and then I found out that instead of me owing them $609 and did the extension I was going to get a refund back of $21 and the state was the same nothing has not changed.not only that you guys have a computer when you punch in a number you should make sure that ein matches the company you make sure you get your money and try to get more money from us. You should also honor your statement that if you get rejected you can go in and fix it at no cost
- At first was easy to use
- Charging you every time if something goes wrong
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Do not use taxact because they really messes things up

Had to pay Tax Act $14.99 so my return would go through because of a glitch in my return that TaxAct had filled in. TaxAct put in an optional email that was not an email and was my user name.
The block was not checked. I did not put anything in the optional email last year or this year.
I do not think I should have had to pay for something that was not my fault. Called billing and lady was very rude to me and said she had the final say and there was no one over her, it appears that I could have been scammed.
